About Me:
I have been a daily smoker for 37 years. I lost my Mother to Lung cancer October 7, 2008, she was 80. She was an ex smoker. If I am fortunate to live to be 80, I want those upcoming years to be healthy ones.

hwc says ~I suspect that, having been successful in not smoking for an extended period of time, you became frightened by the thought of actually never taking another puff. That's a smoker who isn't smoking rather than someone who, even though they may have to fend off a crave here and there, is truly excited by finally being able to consider the rest of their life without smoking. Alas, nobody (so far) has been able to bottle that mindset and sell it or give it away.

And hwc also says ~However, you should know before you decide to smoke "just one" after a year that 95% of all ex-smokers who smoke a cigarette end up right back at their former rate of smoking (or even more). So, you should never think that you can smoke just one. If you want to think about deciding to smoke again, you should think about the 7500 cigarettes that means you will smoke over the next year (if you were only a pack a day addict). You should think about the $2500 you will spend buying those cigarettes (if you live in my state). You should think about which one of those 7500 cigarettes might cause the spot of cancer on your lungs or the irreversable emphysema. You should think about huddling in the rain outside a doorway to get your drug fix every hour of every day for the next year and the year after.

Comment by The Truth 35 seconds ago Thinking about that one cigarette?

The one that will just get you over the hump…
The one that will convince you that you were right to quit…
The one that will show you that you are not really an addict any more…
The one that you should have had before you quit but didn’t…

Well watch out for that one smoke… because cigarettes travel in packs…You know d*mn well that you cannot smoke just one cigarette… So why do you torment yourself with the thought? It is pointless.

And now you are going through the mother of all cravings… and you wish you could just smoke… Ha! Isn’t smoking exactly what brought you to your sorry condition? Quitting for good is the only solution. How on earth would smoking help? It is pointless.

And guess what? You already quit... so there is no going back. Sure you can smoke again, but you will never enjoy smoking the way you used to... If you light up, there will be nothing but guilt, and disappointment, and disgust, and a sense of borrowed time... So why even bother lighting one up? It is pointless.

You know all of this…and yet you won’t let go of the thought, even though doing so would make your quit so much easier…

Why? And what exactly is so bad about never smoking again?

My name is Bob and I have been quit for 5 Years, 4 Days, 13 hours, 31 minutes and 31 seconds (1,830 days). I have saved $27,018.81 by not smoking 128,139 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Year, 2 Months, 2 Weeks, 4 Days, 22 hours and 15 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 3/17/2004 6:00 AM

Obama Vows to Act Fast on Tobacco Bill

http://news.aol.com/article/landmark-tobacco-bill/524218 Interesting reading. I copy and pasted from AOL. Not sure if that is following rules or breaking rules here but I think it is informative enough to do~ As I smoker, I would probably be pissed about some of what the government is trying to do, but as a non smoker~ its about time! I don't agree with governement getting control of a lot of things and I am surely not posting this as a political agenda, or to start and kind of political discu… Continue

Interesting article

"The risk of squamous cell carcinoma stayed about the same over those years, Burns found. But adenocarcinoma rose. It makes up 65 percent to 70 percent of newly occurring U.S. lung cancer cases, but no more than 40 percent of Australia's lung cancer, he said. While the nation's total lung cancer cases have inched down as the number of smokers has dropped in recent years, the study suggests an i… Continue

Morning cigarettes

I got up this morning at the crack of dawn because I could not sleep. Well it happens that the two smokers in the house were also up and getting moving. They went to the porch for their morning fix and I realized that today is the first day in 3 months that this has happened to me and it was a trigger for me. I usually get up after they have started their day, and I don't see or smell the smoke first thing. Of course it is Friday and for some really odd reason, my rough days happen to hit on Fri… Continue

A difference of opinions

I noticed that there is a difference of opinions on alot of things on the blogs, and I guess I am as guilty as anyone else about offering up advice and maybe saying the wrong thing to someone. The one that is the most obvious and I have been told I should not say to someone new anymore is that the person has to want to quit. Well I don't mean to offer bad advice when I say that. I am only trying to express that there has to be a strong enough reason or a strong enough desire to do it so I use th… Continue

Just stopping in to say hi. How are you doing? You are getting close to the 300 day mark! WHOOO HOOO!! Is it getting any easier for you?

The boat is officially in storage now. I need to find a winter hobby. Maybe one that helps me get rid of the weight I gained. Hmmmmm.

Have a good night and stop by when you get a chance, ok? Hugs!!

Hi
Glad to see you are still at it. This is day #31 for me...and it's no fun. Pointed out to me that you have a perfet right to ask people to NOT smoke around you...son and husband. You know how long it took you to get to this point so don't harp on them but be firm, no smoking around you. Period.
