No lie, it is hard. Day 2.

I can hear my addiction talking...the illusion speaks. It says, "Oh you can take one puff, it won't hurt." "You can have just one cigarette a day. Your body will not know the difference, no harm done." lol! I know it is the voice of the addiction and I know NOT to become that voice. I know NOT to become unconscious and thus surrender myself to the voice. My sister is visiting me this weekend and she is a smoker. She smokes outside. She smokes a brand that I could smoke, thus my addiction talks… Continue

Valerie

I am getting there...

I have never attempted to quit smoking so I really do not know what it is like. For the past week I have cut back considerably. I used to smoke about 16 cigarettes a day and for the last week I have decreased that to less than 9. I know nicotine is an addiction and there are nicotine receptors in the brain, but I feel there is a psychological element to the cravings and how we respond to them. For example, once I was on an 11 hour plane ride. I knew I could not have a cigarette and to want one… Continue

I have been a param edic for 7 yrs. I have seen many people die from smoking. I have many storys that I could tell you!! I would like to share one with you. We responded the a home in the county. Inroute dispatched advised that patient was unresponsive and not talking. When we pulled up, I could not believe what I saw. When I stepped in to the kitchen there was blood everywhere. I followed the trail to the restroom where there was tons of the same. There I found a 52 yr old male which has already passed away. I started talking with the family. The patient had cancer of the pharnx from smoking. His cancer got so bad that it attached to a artery. the caneer grew and cut the artery. He left a wife and family that loved him dearly!! i dont want that to be you, or me!! Good luck!!

Yes we can do it & we are doing it! There is nothing "mere" about acknowledgements and affirmation they are so important we need them from each other & all.

Yes, "friend," I accept. And thanks for the kind words. If you need me, you come holler at me, ok?

You've never attempted to quit before? Wow. Lucky you. It's like nothing you've ever been through before. And something that can really be fun! LOL

So, is that a picture of YOU? With a beard? Or an elongated white cat eating your face? Hmmmm. Mighty interesting. And very strange. But then so is your mind. And I like strange minds.

I for one am jealous that you only used to smoke 16 cigarettes a day. I smoked a pack and half. So I figure you've got it easy when it comes to the quitting process. Ya hear that? Good.

Go for it! It'll be a piece of cake. And above all, keep your sense of humor. 'Cause it's a saving grace in this process.

Hello Valerie! I would like to extend a warm welcome to you. This is a great way to start out 2009! I'm 53 and I started smoking when I was 15. I quit on July 17, 2004. I was so scared when I quit, but it was the best thing I ever did for myself. There's lots of great people to help you on this site. Stick with the winners; the ones who are positive and enthusiatic about helping you. You are welcome to check out the group "Yes You Can."
