I am 45 yrs old and had my first taste of a ciggarette at 13. I really didn't start smoking until I was around 16-17 years old and even then it wasn't a "full-time" affair. I didn't totally quit when I was pregnant with my first daughter at 20 - but cut back to a couple of "puffs" here and there. With my 2nd daughter, I didn't even know I was pregnant until almost 4 months along so quit after I found out, and started almost the day after I delivered.
In 1993 (when I turned 30) I quit smoking in my house. I rarely smoked in my car and did not have the time to smoke at work so I cut back quite a bit....even though at the time I only smoked on average 3/4 of a pack a day.
I quit late in 93 until almost mid 95 and started back up...still very little (3-4 cigg's a day if not less).
Now 10-12 years down the road, I find out that I need a bone graph in my foot and the chances of healing a procedure as this are cut almost in half if one smokes. This was one of the deciding factors in quitting.
I had pre-planned my destined date for when my husband and I returned from our trip to Vegas...made mention of it to some but did not carry on from there. The day we arrived at McCarran Airport, I tossed my remaining pack with all of my lighters and called it good. I have been that way since, but it is hard.
What has been my driving force is my stubborness, bullheadedness, and just plain bitchiness.
