About Me:
I've been smoking since I was 13 years old. Stopped smoking when found out I was going to be a mother. Cold turkey, after smoking 2 packs of marb reds a day. I still dunno how I did that, I guess it was the motherly instinct. Well went great, didn't smoke for a year from that day. Went back to work, tried hard to ignore the sea of smokers that took an extra 15min break while I did everything. So I started back up. I can't believe I did that. Now that I live in a different state and a new job with literally zero smokers, I think it's time to kick it again. I just can't...it's like a wall. I feel like I want to, should, and so forth, but I just can't drop the pack of lights. I started reading about triggers and I believe this is the program that will help me stop, once and for all.

Sarah

My goal right now is simple.

So, it's day one of understanding my triggers and working toward quitting. That wall is still in front of me, but I know I am strong enough to take a bulldozer to knock it down. I am surprised at the tracker; that's a new step. I am actually very surprised at the amount of ciggerattes I have in day. If you would have asked me, honestly I would have said two or three. It's more like seven or eight; WHAT! I just don't seem to think about it, I grab my pack and walk outside. It maybe a little mor… Continue

Sarah,

I am 45 yrs old and had my first taste of a ciggarette at 13. I really didn't start smoking until I was around 16-17 years old and even then it wasn't a "full-time" affair. I didn't totally quit when I was pregnant with my first daughter at 20 - but cut back to a couple of "puffs" here and there. With my 2nd daughter, I didn't even know I was pregnant until almost 4 months along so quit after I found out, and started almost the day after I delivered.

In 1993 (when I turned 30) I quit smoking in my house. I rarely smoked in my car and did not have the time to smoke at work so I cut back quite a bit....even though at the time I only smoked on average 3/4 of a pack a day.

I quit late in 93 until almost mid 95 and started back up...still very little (3-4 cigg's a day if not less).

Now 10-12 years down the road, I find out that I need a bone graph in my foot and the chances of healing a procedure as this are cut almost in half if one smokes. This was one of the deciding factors in quitting.

I had pre-planned my destined date for when my husband and I returned from our trip to Vegas...made mention of it to some but did not carry on from there. The day we arrived at McCarran Airport, I tossed my remaining pack with all of my lighters and called it good. I have been that way since, but it is hard.

What has been my driving force is my stubborness, bullheadedness, and just plain bitchiness.

Hello Sarah! Welcome to BecomeanEx.org! There are other quit smoking sites and copycats, but this is the best one on the internet and the greatest people are here. I just turned 54 and I have three grown kids and two granddaughters. This is my 4th attempt at quitting smoking, and I haven't found it necessary to smoke since July 17, 2004. I didn't think I would ever quit again, but here I am. I love being a non-smoker and you will too!

Hi Sarah, and welcome. If you are really serious about quitting, I'm going to suggest reading Allen Carr's book "Easyway to stop smoking". It isn't a riveting read, but it is very effective if you are honestly serious. I wish you the best of luck in your quit, and if you need anything just holler.
