About Me:
I've been quitting off and on for about thirteen years. My longest has been about eight months. I have been able to quit in the past using both Zyban and patches.

The problem I have is that I kept having the thought that I could have "just one" cigarette months into my quit. That one has, more often than not, been the end of the quit.

I've been taking Chantix for about two months now and was smokefree until mid-May when I relapsed for about a week. I stopped again (and I hope, for good) on May 31.

Rough Day Followup Post

Well, the week went much better than the first day. When I looked at the date of the last entry, I realized it was Sunday night. That was the very first day my wife and son were gone! I could have sworn that day was later in the week. But enough rambling.

The rest of the week has gone really well. The urges to smoke really seem to be getting fewer and further between. I haven't been as active on B.E.X. as I perhaps should have been, but it's been a busy week. I should spend some time t…

Rough Day!

One of the worst times I have in quitting is when I lose the folks around me who provide accountability. The last two quits I've blown were when I was away from my family. The first was about five years ago when I was on a business trip. I finished on Friday and since Monday was a holiday, I decided to go snow skiing in Maine. Well, I found a pack of cigarettes in my ski jacket from the previous year (yuck). By the next day, I was back to a pack a day.

The next one was about two years a… Continue

What? Day 17 Already?

Wow. It seems like only yesterday, but I guess it's been almost 2 1/2 weeks since I stopped smoking. Chantix, if you can put up with the side effects, is a wonder drug that will get you through "hell week" to the point where you no longer physically crave cigarettes. It has been the single most important thing in getting me this far. This site has been the second. I've corresponded with many wonderful people here and it's starting to feel a little bit like a second home (blush).

I can…

A Small Major Milestone

Yesterday at work, I had the "anti-Midas" touch. It seems like everything I touched turned to sh*t. I swear, I believe I could have started a manure business around lunchtime. It was one of the most stressful days I've had as a nonsmoker. But the amazing thing was that throughout the whole day, I never ever thought about smoking a cigarette!

Stress has always been a major trigger for me. The natural reaction to a stressful situation or event was to

Reflections (or ramblings) on Week One

Well, week one is in the can, so to speak. While it hasn't been all that difficult (thank you, Chantix and BecomeAnEx), it does seem like it's been a very long seven days. Part of that was, I suppose, because I worked four ten-hour days so I could go to the beach with Rolf and his friend on Friday. And part of it is that I've been trying to organize a group of quitters which is kind of like herding cats.

But, I made it through what some people refer to as "hell week" in one piece and wi… Continue

Yes, be extra diligent this week being fresh off the Chantix. I wasn't expecting the cravings to increase - it caught me off guard. But that subsides too -- I stopped the Chantix June 1st and had about a week's worth of "Wow! This seems really hard again!! But it is much better now -- back to only brief yearnings (sp?).

There's no reason this time can't be permanent for you (and me too) -- all the other times were just prep for the one that's going to stick!!

Hi Rob!

Funny you'd mention the idea of being "comfortable" as a non-smoker -- it's been close to 3 months for me (the longest this time), and I still feel like a "faker", like this quit isn't real -- do you know what I mean? I'm assuming that's because I was a smoker for so, so long (25+ years). When you've quit before, did you ever switch from the mindset of being a smoker who quit to a person who's a non-smoker (it's hard to explain -- I hope you're following my jist!)? Hope today's being nice to you!! Suz
