About Me:
I am a 47 year mommy of a nineteen month old son. I started mommyhood very late in life. I've been smoking for close to 30 years. This is NOT going to be fun for me. When I was pregnant, my doctor didn't yell at me about the cigarettes because my son was so large. She told me that the only proven affect on my baby was small size. I have since found that she was sooooo wrong. My son has breathing problems. I can't even wear the clothes I smoke it around him. He had to have oxygen when he was born because we were nicotine addicts and he was suffering withdrawls. Now, he's at the point where he hugs me and says "my mama" like I would leave him or it was the last time he would ever see me. I made a conscious decision that the cigarettes have to go. I actually broke down and cried today when I finally made the decision.
I'm getting ready to move to another state and the moving is going to be stressful, but I'm going to try my darndest to stay away from the cigarettes. The only problem is I am moving in with my father and he smokes!
Location:
Advance NC

This is the love of my life!

Sorry it has been a minute before responding, but school is kicking my butt this last part of the semester. I hope your surgery goes well. I will keep you in my prayers for a healthy recovery. I got my first "D" on a paper the other day and I cried like a two year old. I did not think it would bother me as much as an adult but it did. The funny thing was though I actually did not want to go have a cig. Anyway, hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

I do enjoy going to school. It is a little overwhelming at times, but it has been my dream my whole life. Thanks to my husband that dream is now coming true. I am on a semester program. I go to a private college in Columbia, MO, and I am getting my bachelors of science degree in human services. After I finish I will go for 3 more semesters and get my masters in social work. What are you going to school for? You may have said so in one of your post, but my memory is shot. If you do not mind my asking what are you having surgery for? Sorry, but I gotta go for now it is late and I have a very early morning. Thanks for talking with me I can use a friend who knows how it feels to give up something that has always been there. Good luck, and ou can do anything if you believe you can.

Hello Mary, my name is Michelle and I am 31 years old and the mother of 4 boys and 1 girl; I have been smoking for 21 years and I quit 10/10/08. I am a freshman in college and getting my degree in human services. I got an e-mail about your post in the quit buddy room and wanted to tell you that I will gladly talk anytime you like. I am on my computer most evenings so I check my email constanly. I saw that you had mid terms. I know how stressful those can be mine were last week. I have found that when the urge hits me really strong I have to remind myself of why I quit. Maybe when you feel like really lighting up take out a picture of that beautiful little boy of yours and remember why you quit. For me it was for my children also, but it was because I am no longer able to breathe or play with my family any more. I can not even walk up a short flight of stairs at school.

Thanks Donna, I really appreciate it. I guess I didn't realize how lonely it was going to be after the move. Even though I went to high school here, I no longer have any friends here. I actually have no outside adult contact except for my immediate family. I live with my dad(he smokes). Dad confines his smoking to his bedroom and he thinks no one else can smell it. Which is wrong as you know.
Well thanks for letting me bend your ear. Big Hugs to you for being a good friend!

Hey Mary, you know what, I've realized that I could smoke at any time...I don't want to and I don't plan to but it could happen...I'm just so glad you slapped that patch back on and quit again....It's so hard, this may make you stronger, because really do you want to go through all this quitting thing again...

Stay in touch, hang in there, you are doing it now....let me know if I can help..

Well I have screwed up for the last couple of days. I don't know why, maybe depression. I'm not stressed, just the opposite. I made it to midterms in school and this is the least homework I've had this term. I guess I was excited to get to redo my son's room and I let it get to me because I couldn't get everything else done.
The good news is I did put the patch back on. I'm just so bad at myself for comming back more often and posting. I'm mad at myself for buying that pack of cigarettes that I of course had to smoke every last one of them, even if it did take me 3 days to do it. Well I'm back.

Oh hey Donna, Just looking for a job this morning in the newspaper...I knew what you meant about the move I just had to add that in about my little buddy. Oh and his idea of helping is opening the boxes and strowing the contents...EVERYWHERE!...lol. Thanks for the word of encouragement! Still on the patch! I just hope I do this well when my dose of nicotine gets reduced...lol. Talk to ya later....Mary
