Winners never quit...but us quitters will ALWAYS win!

Profile Information

About Me:
I am someone who was completely anti smoking growing up. So much that I would beg my grandpa to quit because of what could happen from it. All it took was one crazy Halloween night in college after too many cocktails to have my interest sparked in what was so great about it. I should've just taken their word for it, but I had to see what all the hype was about.

I never became a regular smoker. I never needed it in the morning, or driving to work, or any time after work or dinner, it was all about the alcohol-smoking connection, and it stayed that way til now. Of course there was the occasion where I had a REALLY bad day and had a cig, but those days were few and far between. For this social butterfly, separating alcohol and cigs has seemed impossible for so long, with many failed attempts, but I have never lost the want to quit and be done with it.

I told myself right before my 30th birthday that after my party I was done. One thing came after another though and I kept finding excuses as to why I would have one here or there. I knew I wanted to quit, but apparently my brain wasn't as ready as I thought it was. Once the smoking ban came this past January, I knew it was my sign, and I began what I called the progressive quit. I actually did it and it worked out really well for me! Instead of maybe 8-12 cigs in a night out, I had it down to 3-4 by May. Come June I was barely smoking anything at all, and I got to the point where 2 1/2 weeks went by with nothing. I felt I needed some support from people going thru it, and after seeing ads on all of my Ch 7 soaps this summer I decided to reach out to people and really tackle this thing. I will celebrate my 32nd birthday in Sept; I hope it is the first birthday in years that I do not have any cigarettes because I rid them from my life. They always say quitters never win, but in this case I beg to disagree!

For the Mop Club: you guys are hilarious and I wish I was in on that conversation from the get-go!

150 days and it's all me!

Today I hit 150 days, 5 months of no smoking, and it is all on me! Now don't get me wrong, I have had tremendous support from friends on this site, along with many family members, but ultimately at the end of the day it comes down to whether or not I have the strength to say no and continue to choose a healthier lifestyle over one that can ruin me in myriad ways. I guess the one thing I wanted to say is that for primarily everyone who is relatively new to quitting and finding it extremely tough… Continue

I'm sorry, but we need to sell Wisconsin back to Canada!

So my friend is a dj and has a gig up in southern Wisconsin right over the border (we live in northern illinois). She and I have been singing together for several years and haven't had the chance lately, so last night I decided to go with her to her show so we could sing and maybe try some new songs. Unfortunately Wisconsin is one of the remaining states that does not have a smoking ban; I was not looking forward to sitting in a smaller bar filled with smoke. Let me tell you, it was a lot of fun… Continue

Day 80 is here already? No way!

I just wanted to put into words that I am pretty thrilled about reaching day 80. Wasn't sure this day would ever come, regardless of how much i ever smoked (or did not smoke), but it has and I'm feeling a big sense of pride and accomplishment. This is largely due to the great friends I have made here and the support they have shown me! I just wanted to thank them for their friendship. Of course there are some moments that seem tougher than others, but I am doing it and will continue to do so suc… Continue

TODAY IS MY FIRST SMOKE FREE BIRTHDAY IN 12 YEARS!

I am officially 32 today, and I am so proud to say that it is the first birthday in 12 years that I will not be smoking. I feel so good about that, so there really is no going back! Some coworkers took me out last night after chaperoning a dance at school, and some of them were going out every 5 minutes in the rain to smoke...I sat inside and it really didn't bother me! It is getting a little easier each week, but tonight is a big one because it is special to me that I am really doing this and I… Continue

SCREW EVERYTHING! please stick with me, i am fighting an urge right now!

ok for real...i am at my wit's end and fighting the ultimate battle right now. i was out tonight with coworkers, and my friend from high school is in town (although i didn't see him yet, for some reason that gives me a reason to think i can "party"). yah i haven't seen him yet, but i am looking at everything right now as an excuse to smoke. i have done well, but i set myself back 2 weeks ago after 11 offical days. you know everyone says "good job missy, 13 days! keep it up you can do it!" etc et… Continue

Hell Yah I Did It!

Last night I was out with my friend. I was nervous because I had a minor set back last Friday night while being out, having some drinks, being around smokers, and ultimately caving. My friend whom I was with last night was a pack a day smoker, but back in May or June she had an illness that affected her lungs, and was told to quit right away. She did so, but I hadn't seen her since beginning of June, so I wasn't sure if she was smoking again or not. If she was, could I keep it together and fi…

Unacceptable

Yah I screwed up. I will admit it and welcome the ridicule from whoever feels it necessary to give. Last night was our first "teachers club" outing to open the new school year and welcome new staff members. I thought I could handle it so I had several drinks and ended up smoking 2 cigs. This is why I haven't drank more than 2 drinks in a sitting in the last month and a half, and I proved to myself last night that I am not ready to handle anything more. I am so irritated with myself but know ther… Continue

Thank you Michael Phelps and Beijing!

I just wanted to say that I wish the Olympics would last for an additional 2 weeks, cuz it is the only thing that has kept my butt home and on the couch this weekend instead of going out and being tempted to smoke. I could watch MIchael Phelps swim all day! Also a big thank you to those who have made some of the postings entertaining for me, or have pointed out some previously entertaining posts! I am glad to see that even though this is a difficult thing we are doing, people still find time to… Continue

This very minute sucks!

OK right now I am feeling aggravated. I sent an email out to a group asking for advice. My quit date came and went yesterday, and I have an unsettling, unfinished feeling due to the fact that I am/was a smoker only when I drank, and I did not get to "go out with a bang" since I had to start back to work yesterday and couldn't go out (meaning have a last hoorah with some cocktails and a couple smokes to say goodbye to this habit). I don't see what would be wrong with possibly having a couple over… Continue
