Hello Melissa and Welcome!
I'm so glad that you decided to join us. This is a great site with an excellent program to help you through the quitting process. (www.becomeanex.org). Everyone on here will offer you support, encouragement and advice when you need it. There are many groups to join which may be of interest to you, (I would suggest the Daily Pledge Group) and many inspirational stories to help motivate you. You won't have to quit by yourself this time. You can rant, rave, and write your feelings here. We all understand. There are a couple of sites I would suggest: www.whyquit.com, to read about the addictive behaviors and thoughts you developed while smoking and www.meditainment.com to learn meditation. I found both to be extremely helpful. Remember, YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CHOOSE.....USE WISELY YOUR POWER OF CHOICE. Another tip which may help is post a note on your bathroom mirror which states, "SMOKING IS NOT AN OPTION!!" Read this several times a day and soon you will believe it. Remember too, that quitting is a process and not an event. I Congratulate you on taking your first step towards a happier and healthier life! If I can be of any help, just drop me a line.

Hello Melissa! Welcome to this site. I smoked off and on for 35 years and I've been a non-smoker for over four years now. This is my fourth time quitting. My last quit lasted 19 months and it took me 30 years to quit again. I don't cough anymore. Ever. Except when I laugh too much. My granddaughters have never seen me smoke. You don't have to go through this alone because there's lots of people here that are more than willing to help you. Stick with the winners in here; the ones who are taking this seriously and not smoking anything else as a substitute. You no longer have to let smoking control your life.
