About Me:
I have been a smoker for 41 years!!I have quit numerous times over the years and once for over 2 years. so now i have just joined become anex and i'm feeling pretty good about working on my triggers and am getting ready to set a quit date. I am a counselor, by profession, so i seriously know how tough an addiction it is. I have never really had any types of support from groups so I'm hoping this works for me. I have found that the nicotine patch works well for me in the past. I really wanted to try Chantix, but, my doctor, won't prescribe it for me he said there have been many case of people seriously flipping out on it. He also, said that pilots, are not allowed to take it!! Pretty scary stuff.

Louise, I know about Chantix... I started taking it and had to quit bcause if side effect (horrible)... then I thought, what a waste of money, I was urged to sell them to someone who wanted to quit that maybe they wouldn't have the same side effects. I ended up tossing in the garabge disposal as I did not want to be responsible for that. I find that the patches do work and the gum as well. Seems that I quit for a week or so then, have a fit and go buy a pack.... pretty pathetic I know..
I was wondering if you or anyone has heard from Michael Paterson from Alaska? I know he had a lung transplant...haven't been on the site for a while so am kinda out of the loop. Please let me know if you have any info. about him.. He was such a powerful part of my experience on Become an ex. Anyway, congrats on the quit... happy for u....

I think we have alot in common. My quit day is tomorrow ( fri ) and I am very nervous about it. I too am going to wera a patch BUT this time I am going to a smoking support group at a local hospital. I am also 58 and have smoked 41 years !!! Sound familiar. This is really pathetic Louise.....we need to quit if for no one elses sake but our own. Heres my take. I NEED SUPPORT !!! Damn, are you pretty strong in other areas...sounds like you are...your a professional like me...I am a radio announcer at the top station here in Baltimore....alot...alot of stress. But tomorrow never comes. I have to do it this time...and NO Chantix...I too have heard bad stuff. If you would like to be my partner in this Louise...I will ALWAYS...No matter how many times be there for you. Write...OK ??? Thanks.
