About Me:
I quit smoking after nearly 40 years of smoking in June 2005. It wasn't easy but I did it but only because I had the help and support of people I met on the internet. I am here because I want to help others beat this terrible addiction.

I am retired from working for the State of New York, USA but work part time in sales. I am married with two children, one married.

I went to a hypnotist and he told me things like I would be relaxed by deep breathing etc. He said to come back in three days so I stayed quit for three days and he did it again. I don't know how much he helped me but he gave me my start. It was still difficult but I knew it had to be done. I did a lot of posting on the smoking cessation websites and that helped during the trigger times. No patch, no pills. Just me wanting to quit. The friends I met in cyberspace helped me a lot. Like Mike here.

Linda, just found your message. Thanks. Do you remember your first days? How did you hold thru first week? i am afraid even to put the date. Tomorrow I am going to the business trip- 10 hours driving and I am normally smoking when driving long distances. Thought I could do the first day this Saturday, but when thought of this meeting in West Virginia- thought that I would sip- there will be nerveous meeting on Constriction site etc ...etc...etc...

Linda, there's no doubt this is a very powerful addiction. I have decided rather than choosing one day to quit I am taking steps toward a final quit. I have started by not smoking at work, then in the car, now after dinner, and I will continue to gradually cut this out of my life and develop new habits one step at a time. I'm not sure if this is 'recomended' but it is working for me. I know there's nothing to stop me from picking up at those particular times but if I do pick up during the times I vowed not to, I will move on and not be so hard on myself. It will require more time to quit but it seems to be working for me. I hope you have a good day!
