Hey Lil, your twins are adorable. I have two girls myself ages 8 & 13. We have to do this for them. We will need each other to be successful. I'm excited about all the new people we will meet. I hope I can be of help to you and others. I haven't picked a quit date yet. Within the next week. need to read more on triggers ect....
Good Morning Lil,
I'm building up to the cold turkey as well. As you said, FINALLY wanting to quit is what makes cold turkey a believable goal! I smoke about 1/2 pack a day and have been cutting that back day by day. I am also at the point of wanting to quit that I light the cig, take a couple of puffs and put it out.
It was a good weekend for not smoking - spending time away from home is best for me. Yesterday I was at a show with my family and did not smoke for 7 hours - then came home and went out on the patio with the dog and had a cig that was nasty. I find the longer in between the nastier they taste! My husband said "I hate when you leave this door open when you go out there and smoke". He was right. I felt like a fool. Who needs to feel like this?
Hi Lil,
Yes, I though we might be alike when I saw the smiles on your girls faces! I'm glad I found this site and glad to have found you. I'm so ready to quit this awful habit and the more I read the more motivated I become. My daughter is really a great motivation too. Now she is old enough to say "I don't want anything to happen to you". It goes right through me - but oddly sometimes it gives me a tightness in my shoulders that just makes me want to smoke more. Does that happen to you?
My old friend who moved to Fla. just came back into town this week and stopped over for a visit last night. We used to smoke together and after she was in my house for awhile she asked if I was still smoking. I wished I could have said no. I told her I was trying to quit and wanted to go cold turkey. She was dying for a cigarette, so I went outside with her and we talked about all the bad of it. I held off on smoking the first 2 with her - but then gave in after a glass a wine for her third.
This morning I had a mammagram & blood test appt and had to go fasting for the blood test. I did not smoke and kept smelling my clean self all the way there. When I got into the car I thought about running back into the house to get the pack of cigs - my good buddy - and I stopped and thought you do not need them! After the Dr's office I stopped and had a bagel and coffee since I was starving - and I enjoyed every bit of it with no cigarette to top it off.
It was nice to log on and find your message. Hope you have a good day!
Hi Lil,
I am 42 and have smoked for almost the same amount of time. I don't even want to think how long. I am also a mother of a 10 year old and just have to do this. I am here for support as well.
Thanks for the reassurance about my Mom in heaven. I look forward to seeing her there one day but am hoping that now that I have quit it will be a longer time until that day comes.
Thank you for your support Lil

I know it is going to be tough but, as many people on this site have shown me...it can be done!!!
