I picked up smoking again at 4 pm today. I was either eating or sleeping and just not feeling good at all. Yeah, I know another day and I could have been through that initial 72 hrs of misery. I haven't had a cigarette since Nov 1 around 6 pm. Yeah, its a short time but in the beginning its a very long time. This time I've decided that I'm not smoking one day at a time and I'm not using NRT. I've been reading Allen Carr's The EasyWay to Quit Smoking. Its great! Well, I've decided to quit smoking on Nov 1. This time I am more prepared than last time. I hope anyway.
My life is different, I've quit my job and started school. The first week of my quit is a week off of school so I'll have time to adjust to my new life as a non-smoker and start up some new good habits like exercising. I know my pitfalls so plan to work hard at my quit.

I started smoking again about 10 days ago. I'm disappointed but I'm going to make another quit attempt in about 4 weeks.

Each time I've attempted to quit smoking I am fine for about the first 4 weeks. Then I slowly dip into depression and develop unbearable anxiety. Seems for me the lack of nicotine and other whatever other chemicals are in cigarettes have a huge effect on my brain. Its now 6 weeks since I quit smoking and I'm still wearing 7mg NRT patch. I feel great physically but its the mental effect that is wearing on me.

The depression is coming on strong along with anxiety. This is what I feared about this quit. The last time I quit smoking I became depressed, anxious and got strange thoughts. Dopamine regulation went way out of whack then and its doing it again now. Nicotine has a strong influence on dopamine and this is well known. I can't help but wonder… Continue
