About Me:
37 years old, smoking since 11 (26 year habit), trying to quit for years - literally, quit multiple times a week. Quit 6/3/09 (again) and going to start going back to the gym after almost 7 months without working out. I hope tomorrow is my 1st day back. Last time I quit and joined this site was in Sept. of '08 and I made it to almost the 2nd week in November (I think about 45 days) and then I went to Vegas and fell off the wagon until yesterday (my quit date of 6/3).

I hear ya. Good on your 22 day quit. It's been tough for me to cut weight and get in shape despite making my eating habits 100% (low cal, low fat, etc.), going to the gym 5 days a week lifting and cardio. At least the gym keeps me busy for hours at a time. I'm having trouble with figuring out how I'm going to drink alcohol and not smoke. I miss having my Long Island Iced Tea that I would have once every week or two. I'll figure it out I guess. I'm getting married in Vegas on Nov. 11 and I'm not sure how I'm going to do it yet because both the fiance and I are planning on drinking a lot and they allow smoking in all the casinos. Tentatively I"m planning on just taking it minute by minute, hour by hour in the casino while I drink and remain smoke free.

Keep up the good quit John and I'll check back with you in a week or so.

It really is just one day at a time for me. 22 days ago I could not have seen myself here still smoke free. Did you see yourself at 17 days? Man I have spent a lot of time on the internet on youtube and downloading music, just to stay busy when I wasn't working out. My music collection has really grown the last 22 days (along with my waist, despite working out - my metabolism sucks since quitting) lol. Keep up the good quit and thanks for check'n in - it's much appreciated

Hey John, you are the 200th member of Relapse Traps. If I had a door prize I'd give it to ya!

So this is your one week milestone, eh? Except for a couple of puffs in a bar. Congrats. Keep going to that gym. I know how much physical exercise helped me. Strong body, strong mind. It's like everything pointing in the same direction and that is getting yourself in shape. Inside and out.

But really watch out for the booze. It takes mental strength to keep a quit and when we get fuzzy with alcohol all our wisdom and control goes out the window. I'd suggest if you do go out drinkin', bring a friend that will break your arm if you put a cigarette in your mouth. I would tell my friends "if you love me, DO NOT LET ME SMOKE under any circumstances, no matter what I say or do."

Hold onto this quit for dear life. Because your life is dear.

Oh man - I am so glad they outlawed smoking in bars here - cause who knows when I'd go out again! Working out is definitely still my favorite way to get through this. Keep it up man - a few puffs is merely a minor slip - get past that week and onto week two!

Thanks for all the support you guys and gals. Today is day 5 for me. I slipped up a little on Saturday (my 3rd day) when I thought that I could maybe handle being at a bar watching my friend sing karaoke. I had already promised I would be there to support him and figured I would just leave if I was getting too tempted. Well let me tell ya this bar allows smoking inside. I was ok for about the first 3 hours or so and then once I got a few drinks in me I shared some puffs off of my fiances cigarettes. It was probably the equivalent to maybe smoking a 1/2 cig the whole night but I still felt like I failed. She is trying to quit sort of also but is waiting until I am in a safer smoke-free place to support her quitting. Unfortunately I know she has a full pack just sitting in her purse on the kitchen table and man o man is that pack calling out to me. I feel like a crack head when it comes to quitting this habit. I'm going cold turkey - I've tried everything else including gums, patches, Chantex...blah blah blah. Since I'm not working now though I go to the gym everyday without fail and sometimes two times a day. That helps a ton. Day 6 is about to start so I'm off and thanks again for the support.

Search the site, the blogs etc - I found a lot of helpful info and other stuff that just didn't match with me. Like picking and choosing from a buffet. Best of Luck man

Hello John! Congradulations on your quit! I smoked off and on for 35 years and I've been a non-smoker for over four years now. This is my fourth time quitting. My last quit lasted 19 months and it took me 30 years to quit again. I don't cough anymore. Ever. Except when I laugh too much. My granddaughters have never seen me smoke. You don't have to go through this alone because there's lots of people here that are more than willing to help you. Contrary to what a small minority of people here think, stick with the winners in here; the ones who are taking this seriously and not smoking anything else as a substitute. You no longer have to let smoking control your life. Quitting smoking is like giving up your comfort blanket and changing your lifestyle. It is hard, but the hard part is temporary and well worth it.
