Debbie it gets easier very subtly and before you know it, you will realize that you haven't thought about smoking in longer and longer periods of time. It's been something that is so engrained in everything you do. Patience and perseverence will get you through. Never give up on yourself.

Welcome, Debbie. Things will get easier. One step at a time. There are a lot of groups here that can help you maintain your freedom from smoking. I'd like to invite you to check out a couple of them. One of my groups is (QPC) Quit Party Central - Celebrating our Milestones which is pretty self explanatory. No amount of time smoke free is too small or too big. We love to celebrate with each other and encourage each other along this journey.

The other group I started Reason Why I Quit as a place to write down not only your reasons for quitting, but to possibly help others to relate to your particular story in the hopes that it will help them to quit as well.

Hang in there. There are a lot of people willing to help. Holler if you need me :)

Debbie

Congratulations on your decision to quit. I hope you are having a lot of success. There are a lot of stages to the quit and each one is uniquely different.

Going into 5 weeks, I'm finding that it is harder for me now than it was early on. I'm not having big cravings anymore, but I think I just want a little of my normal life back. Quitting and thinking about staying quit are a full time job.

The weight gain thing is tough. I have to constantly remind myself that I was really thin when I smoked, because I was sick. Smoking made me look sickly and feel sickly. I would rather be 5 or 10 pounds heavier and healthy with a glow to my skin.

I haven't been drastic about dieting. I have been more active and eating less in the evening or avoiding desert. I also drink decaf green tea at least 3 or 4 times a day. Green tea has, as we all know, a lot of healing properties, but it also helps with digestion. Ginger Root tea is also wonderful for digestion—which helps with maintaining a healthy weight.

Good luck to you. One day at a time.

Hey Debbie

Welcome to the site. There are a lot of wonderful people here. They have been so incredibly helpful in my quit—soon to be 5 weeks smoke free. Let us know if you need anything. Have you set a date or signed up for the plan yet?

Best of luck to you.
