About Me:
I am a married white female age 50 who has smoked for at least the last 35 years. After coming down with pneumonia twice within a year, I decided I needed to really think about quit smoking. Aside from the health issues, the cost of cigarettes and all the surrounding issues that go with cigarette smoking. The first time I came down with pneumonia, my doctor gave me the Chantix information. I decided I wasn't ready yet. Now I am ready and I started my Chantix today. I am taking baby steps. I am learning how to live through my everyday activities without smoking. I'm setting small goals to start with. My goal for this week is to wake up and get ready for work without smoking. For me this is my first hurdle. I would love to hear from other Chantix users. The first thing I noticed was about an hour after taking my first pill, I have a different taste in my mouth. The second thing I noticed was when I went to eat some mini powdered sugar donuts. It was like a sugar shock. I ate the same donuts last night before taking this new medication. What have others experienced? I am not setting a quit date. I'm taking 1 day at a time.

Hi Deb....how's it going? Did you set a quit date? I set a quit date of the 8th day on Chantix and made sure I didn't have any cigs in the house, car or hidden in the garage.

It is 4 months 8 days for me!

Good Luck...if I can do it so can YOU! I smoked for 40 years.

I am really looking forward to going through this process. I am getting ready for the "dreams" whatever they are and it will be interesting to see if they really happen. That might be kind of interesting in itself! LOL! I am taking it nice and slow. It's great to hear everyones experiences and input. I'm glad I found this site!

Setting a QUIT DATE

Thank you all for the warm welcome and comments! I think this group is really going to help me along this path. How many of you who used Chantix set a quit date? I am not setting a quit date. I'm afraid if I do I will just set myself up for more stress and disappointment. I want to take this slowly and when the time is right for me to completely stop I want to make sure it stays that way. My goal is to stop smoking when winter sets into Iowa. By that time of year it will be too cold to stand outside in the street like a hooker in a snowstorm! LOL! I would love to hear more about your experiences along this personal journey.

Wishing you GOOD LUCK Deb! I used Chantix for 31 days and believe it is what helped me REALLY QUIT this time. Today is 4 months and 1 day smoke free for me!

I am one of the nut cases that enjoyed the VIVID dreams. They were not nightmares....just so REAL that when I woke up I remembered them. They started about the 2nd week.

Remember it is all up to you....YOU CAN DO IT!

HOLLER if you need some help!

Yes, I do know what you mean about the upset stomach. I read about it before taking it. I have been taking my pill with some whole milk each time. That really helps a lot. I am only on my 2nd day of Chantix, so the dreams or nightmares haven't started. Makes me wonder just what to expect while I am asleep. LOL! I've read on this site where some people have had great dreams and wished they would continue while yet others have had nightmares. I think that is even worth it to quit. My goal is to quit by the first snow fall. I don't want to have to stand in the street now like a hooker freezing my buns off getting pneumonia for the 3rd times. I am working on it now before fall gets here. How are you doing with your smoking?

Thank you for the nice welcome! I have tried to quit cold turkey before and that didn't work. Now that Chantix is affordable I am going for it. I am just so tired of all the issues that surround smoking. I really want to break free from this bad habit. A habit I wish I never would have started. You live and learn I guess. I just know for me this is the right time to go for it. I really don't want to spend another winter standing outside now in the street, looking like a hooker just to have a smoke. I'm trying taking baby steps. My goal this week to to wake and start getting ready for work without a cigarette. That was hard enough today to start with as I always wake up and have a few cigarettes before even thinking about getting ready for work. One battle at a time. LOL!

Hello Deb! Welcome to this site. I smoked off and on for 35 years and I've been a non-smoker for over four years now. This is my fourth time quitting. My last quit lasted 19 months and it took me 30 years to quit again. I don't cough anymore. Ever. Except when I laugh too much. My granddaughters have never seen me smoke. You don't have to go through this alone because there's lots of people here that are more than willing to help you. Stick with the winners in here; the ones who are taking this seriously and not smoking anything else as a substitute. You no longer have to let smoking control your life. If the Chantix works for you, go for it! I did the lozenges and that worked for me.
