smoking relationship

I have been with my husband for four years. I have smoked for seven years. I have gone through bad relationships, homelessness, three pregnancy's, a previous deployment, deaths and major illness in the family, and smoking has gotten me through all of it. I didn't smoke during my pregnancy, but afterwards I did. smoking is my crutch. I have had a longer relationship with cigarettes than I have had with any one else in my life, my mother, my father, any boyfriends, and any home. I have a longer co… Continue

What is it that works for you when you decide you are done once and for all? I keep telling myself I hate the way I look, or how much they cost, but like most, when stress happens, they are so easy to go pick up, even for a teeny fix that I know is temp!!! I quit once for 3 months. Since then, easier said than done!

Hi Charity,

I sympathize with your efforts to quit smoking. Although I don't smoke, I'm a new mom myself, and I understand the stress.

I'm writing about this issue -- efforts to help women stop smoking during and after pregnancy -- and I was wondering if you'd like to share your story with my paper, USA TODAY? Or, do you know any other moms who might be willing to talk to me about their struggle with smoking? We do need to use first and last names for everyone we interview, so I hope that is OK. I've learnedthat a fair number of women, like you, are able to quit during pregnancy, but that 70% then go back to smoking after delivery. All the experts say that most smokers need several attempts before they can quit for good, so it's not surprising that a lot of new moms go back, or quit only after their kids are much older (and they've tried five times).

Thanks for your help. You've done a great thing by starting this forum!

I want to wish you a Super Mothers day.

I want to extend my hand of support to you and everyone in your group. I am helping build a inner support structure with groups that can help other group members. Most in my team have years of support experience in a smoke free environment.

We have been there... done that ...and if you can not relate to one of us there are about 9 others that also offer Super Support.

I hope you will consider our help and do not be afraid to ask any questions. We are here to help others like yourself.

Hi Charity... You can do it. You have the most beautiful children and they are so worth this. I have two boys myself ages 14 and 11. They constantly tell me to quit. I finally did it. Today is my 2nd day and it's been fairly difficult but I am NOT going to give in. You stay strong for yourself and your family. Your husband will be so proud of you.

Warmest Wishes,

Lea
