Carol:

You can do this. I dont drive so I cant help you there but I was a phone talker and a smoker. I do a lot more texting than talking now and I just refuse to let a cigarette control my life anymore. I'm ok with sometimes I am going to want a cigarette but I am not going to have one. I was sick physically the first week ok the 2nd and most of the third and now I am getting cold symptoms and I think it is just my lungs clearing stuff out of them. You can do this....

How has day 3 gone, Carol? Days one and 3 were both the hardest for me as far as nicotine was concerned. I got off the patch because of the wacky dreams also. I was waking up going what the heck was that all about? Good luck with teaching the kids! Big or little? I'm a high school counselor, and grateful I'm off right now. Going back at the end of this month. Congratulations on getting through this day smoke free!

you CAN get through this! Trust me, the way my profile looks now, I spent hours last night figuring out how to do it. You go to "change my theme" which is right under your profile picture. On the next page click on the "advanced" tab. On the next page your see all this stuff in a colomn. Highlight everything in the colomn and then click "backspace" on your keyboard. Then go back to the previous page where you can put in your colors and pictures and be sure and click "save" at the bottom when you're done. I found the pattern on photobucket. I put a search on wallpaper and that's how I found it. It's kind of hard to explain, but it's fun when you figure it out!

To put a counter on your page just come to my page and click the link under my counter it will take you to the page where you create your counter then all you do is cut and paste it to your page Good Luck it is easy after you have done it but it took me about 1 hour I am not real computer smart. So glad to have another non smoking friend stay in touch. and keep going Chantix is wonderful.

Hi Carol, thanks for stopping by. Congrat's on your 2nd smokefree day. This was helpful info I found for when I had cravings. You can do this, I smoked many years and now I am almost 6 monhs into my freedom from cigerattes.

Even though you’ve officially quit smoking, the urge to smoke may come and go. Many times, cravings can result from being hungry, angry, lonely, tired, or bored. Think back to your triggers for smoking and use your action plan for how you’ll deal with cravings and keep the tips below in mind to help you through them. Remember that trying something to beat the urge is always better than trying nothing.

Keep other foods around that can help you get through a craving. Try carrots, pickles, sunflower seeds, apples, celery, raisins, licorice or sugarfree gum.
Wash your hands when you have an intense craving.
Stay busy, especially with activities that use your hands.
Don’t get down on yourself.
Think positively and find healthy outlets for stress or anger. If something bothers you, learn to relax quickly by taking deep breaths. Take 10 slow, deep breaths and hold the last one. Then breathe out slowly.
Picture a soothing, pleasant scene. Think only about that peaceful image and nothing else.
Light incense or a candle instead of a cigarette.
Go outside, or move to a different room. Try changing what you are doing.
Remember, having just one cigarette will hurt. Don’t allow yourself to go down the path of justifying the urge to smoke. It will undo the work, commitment and progress you’ve made thus far.

Please drop by and let me know how you are doing...

sorry ive been outside with the kids all day. Im doing good in my quit now...its all downhill from here. Ive gotten over the hardest parts and now its all mental and any urges that i have are usually fleeting, and not hard to ignore. I promise it gets easier. its just the battle of getting to the point of being comfortable with it!!!!!! dont give up. :)

Carol, I am using Chantix.... you take it for 7 days and then quit. It has really helped me. I was/am so addicted the the smoke brake itself and the hand/mouth ritual. I have been doing dum-dum lolli pops, chewing on straws, drinking ice cold water, sweating, lots of stuff, sleeping helps..like naps or just laying on the couch. It is day 6 for me and I am truely a lot better then day 2. So my heart goes out to you.
I can breathe now. I wake up feeling truely rested. I have so much more energy. I can think clearer. I really think that cigarettes were draining me of any energy that I had. My husband still is a smoker. He smokes in front of me and I don't let it get to me.

When I have a terrible craving...I mentally remove myself from the craving and then I think to myself boy this craving is really kicking my ass. So I would think about the power the craving had over me and not the "burning desire" to smoke. I would focus on the power of how the craving gripped me...not the cigarette. before i knew it I did not think about the cigarette..i thought about the affect the craving made me feel so desparete... Don't give up ...It is worth giving up.Best of luck keep in touch

Carol sounds like you are a Christian lady so my advice to you would be when you get the urge to smoke. Put your hands together as you would for a prayer. I don't beileve I've ever seen anyone hold a cigarette while praying.
Be Strong.
