I have been on Chantix for w weeks. I can not sleep, have started smoking again and am VERY VERY VERY DEPRESSED. I can not relax, crying all the time. I thought it was the withdrawal from cigarettes, so I smoked one. Apparently that is not it. I am still just as depressed. I have a history of depression anyway. Other than going off the Chantix- which I plan to do, any ideas?

I had to do away w/my night meds...it gave me horrible dreams therefore I wasn't getting any sleep! I also take an antidepressant...you really need to talk w/your doctor before doing anything on your own...hope all is better though:)

I need to be EXTREMELY honest with you about this! You are going to be fine! DON'T GIVE UP! Just call your doctor - tell them what's been going on - Chantix has a depressive side affect that kicks your butt especially if you are prone to a depressive state. I quit on 1/26 of this year - during the weeks I was on Chantix - I went to my family doctor once - a psychiatrist twice - I only took Chantix once a day to start with and it still kicked my mind - after a few weeks - I cut back to every other day and then every two days - IT WAS LIVING HELL - the worst 12 weeks of MY LIFE - I DON"T EVER WANT TO DO THAT EVER AGAIN - the good news NO THE GREAT NEWS ..... BREATHING FREE FOR 118 DAYS. My doctor told me it wasn't the nicotine that I was craving .. it was the stimulant part of it - The other very necessary part of all of this is to change your routine TOTALLY. Sad to say I even lost a few what I thought were friends over this ... you know smoking buddies? when I told them hey can't go out at lunch anymore to hang a lot of the didn't get it. oh well you're loss. I have made new friends in the lunchroom at work and somedays I even go to lunch by myself.
Whatever you do, please make the first thing to call your doctor - they will help you through this - You know I prayed to God to help me make this the very last time I quit ... ask him to make it memorable .... and believe me God answered my prayer - the 12 weeks of Chantix was HELL HELL HELL .... weeks I will NEVER forget (nor will my family) - and every day I wake up breathing free, I thank GOD for giving me the strength to make it through. YOU CAN MAKE IT ... JUST FACE THE STORM my friend!

sounds like you need to call your doctor right away...that can be a side effect but since you have the history you need to call him...........
