I have just signed up for this after deciding it is time for me to quit smoking. I will start tracking...and working on my triggers today. Lord help me. Smoking always get in my way. I am pretty much the only one in my immediate fam that smokes. My son ask me all the time to quit for him if nothing else and it just makes me feel sick when the only thing I can say is...I know son, its just hard. Sooo, here I am ready to take the first step and see if I can complete my mission. I am looking for some beginners to go thru this journey with me...:)

Good morning momaT. I am a newbie also and would love to share the journey with you. I am starting the program today and will be tracking my cigarettes. I am planning on a January 15th quit date. I know it will not be easy but I think that with the plan and support we can do it. Please add me as a friend. Good luck and I am here whenever you need support and encouragement (or just to vent, I am sure we will be doing some of that too - lol).

Thanks momaT. I am glad to have someone to go through this with too. I am new to forums like this. Is it best to talk through this newbies group or should I send messages or leave comments. I too am the only one in my immediate fam that smokes and I always smoke outside so I don't bother my family. They are always asking me to stop too and it is hard to make them understand that it is a difficult addiction to overcome. But I am determined to make it work this time. How long have you smoked? I have been smoking for 23 years too long - lol. I just want to make sure I stay healthy for my kids and grandkids. I started tracking my cigarettes today also, so I guess we are on our way in this new journey. Have you thought about your quit date yet?

Well, my tracking has begun,,lordy lordy. I smoke outside also. I have smoked for many years. Since I was about 15 and I am now 45. You said your quit date is Jan 15? I am thinking might be a good day for me also. My son who is 8...his B day is the 18th and I couldnt think of a better B day gift than this. Of course he will still have lots presents, Only thing is if he has a B day party...on my 3rd day cold turkey...grrrrrrrrrr I will probably be a bear. But thats ok. you mentioned you have grandbabies. How nice. I have a daughter 23 who has been smoking the past few months since she broke up with her fiance. I dont say too much cuz...look at me. But I am sure hating it. I will start on my crusade with her after I pass the test and show her I can do this. Yes, a daughter 23 and son 8. Life is full of surprises huh?

I have smoked since I was 17 and I am now 42. Your quit date would be a good B-day present for your son (among all the other presents - lordy do I know about that). I have a son 28, a son 24, a son 22 and a daughter who will be 19 on January 29th (my two oldest sons are from my husband's first marriage, there is a 16 year age difference between he and I and he had children later in life, I had mine so I would be able to be a young, hip granny - lol). I have 4 grand daughters (ages 9, 5, 2 and 6 months) and 2 grand sons (ages 4 and 2) so I need to be healthier and have lots of energy to keep up with them all - lol. My two oldest sons and their wives smoke so I am in the same boat of not being able to say to much to them either. Life is full of so many wonderful surprises and I am glad we are taking steps to make sure we will be around to enjoy them all for many years to come.

Well momaT, I did it. I trashed my remaining cigarettes and am on my way. Over the weekend I cut back to 4 a day and thanks to encouragement from people at this site, I am giving them up for good today. How are you doing? I hope you had a good weekend. Keep me updated on your progress. We can do this together!
